| Proposal | Notification of works to horse chestnut trees in the grounds of Crowland Abbey, which is within the Conservation Area.
a) Previously pruned and re-grown horse chestnut immediately to the east of the Abbey chancel.
The works proposed on this tree depend on what condition it is found to be in once a climbing inspection has been made.
If the tree is considered to be sufficiently strong, should it be cut back to sound wood, to maintain a new canopy; it may be retained. The crown either to be pruned back to previous cuts or reduced back and thinned out to give clearance from the Abbey and balanced.
If on close inspection the tree has sufficient crown rot to make it un-viable to retain, then the tree should felled, removed and a replacement tree planted.
b) Horse chestnut approximately 25 metres to the east of the chancel of the Abbey. This tree contains deadwood, had evidence of a fungal infection and has become hollow. It thus poses a danger. The tree contains many wood pecker holes.
Notification to fell and remove the tree and plant a replacement. |
