| Proposal | Application for works to trees subject to Tydd Saint Mary Tree Preservation Order No.2 1978. The trees are also within Tydd St Mary Conservation Area.
Reference numbers relate to the plan submitted as part of the application and as attached to the decision notice.
Tree no.1:
English oak (Quercus robur). In the rear garden of the property known as Mulberry Lodge.
The fungi Ganoderma adspersum is present at the base of the tree. 'Only two brackets are more than one year old, the others, approximately six, are fresh'. This fungi can 'eventually cause weakness of the main stem leading to ductile fracture'. The tree's form is such that it grows away from the adjacent Turkey oak (Quercus cerris) Tree no.2; the house has been located so that the tree appears to lean across the garden towards it.
Application is therefore made to fell the tree.
Tree no 3:
English oak (Quercus robur).
This tree grows on the boundary of the property known as Mulberry Lodge, adjacent to the Sports Field known as'Bottom Field'.
'The tree is in poor condition;there is a major basal cavity and decay. The stem is ivy clad making detailed inspection difficult and adding to the stress on the weakened butt. There is deadwood in the crown and some deadwood has recently been removed. A large limb is growing south along the property boundary'.
Application is made to pollard the tree above the lower small branches at approximately six metres, to make safe and retain for conservation benefit. The ivy to be severed at ground level. |
