ProposalApplication for works to horse chestnut trees the subject of Saracen's Head Tree Preservation Order No. 3 2000. The trees are in the grounds of Laburnum House, Washway Road, Saracen's Head, located on the road frontage. Identification numbers refer to the Tree Preservation Order. Some additional notes in brackets have been added as alternatives/ extra detail as suggested by the Trees and Nature Conservation Officer whilst on site. T1 An exceptionally large horse chestnut. a)Prune back (lower branches) from annex, by no more than 4.0 metres, roughly in line with the south wall of the annex, to give clearance. b)Prune back branches over Village Hall by no more than 3.0 metres to take the weight off the branches, OR (Crown lift low branches over Village Hall by no more than 2.0 metres). c)There is a low branch over-hanging the driveway. Remove weight off the end by reduction to where the branch divides at no nearer than 3.048 metres (10 feet) from the main trunk. (There is great concern that large wounds will encourage rot which will eventually rot back and enter the main trunk, on site it was suggested that the branch be selectively reduced/thinned to reduce the weight of this limb by no more than one third, access by large vehicles is required so this is unlikely to be sufficient). d)This tree overhangs the road and has received damage by passing traffic. Trim up to 3.0 metres off the branches which overhang the road. This will also make the tree look more symmetrical. (Remove damaged branch back to new growth points. Large branch over road to south east; reduce weight by removal of section which grows upright and spreads towards wires, approximately 3.0 metres to remove. Large limb over footpath, similarly reduce weight by reduction of horizontal branches by no more than 3.0 metres). T2 Horse chestnut. a)This tree is letting very limited light into the adjacent bedroom at Laburnum House and also overhangs the roof. It is growing increasingly close to the chimney, and also overhangs the road. Trim back up to 3.0 metres all around the tree, not including height. (A 3.0 metres reduction over the road will balance the crown of the tree, the reduction over the neighbours garden may require to be less to achieve the desired balanced appearance; similarly the reduction to give clearance to the house. A two metre clearance from the house to be obtained. This may include the cutting back of the branch which grows in front of the window to where the branch divides).
